Solano State Prison
Located against the valley foothills among cattle fields and farmland, Solano State Prison in Vacaville, CA was the perfect candidate for a state of the art tracking type solar system. BCE recently completed the installation of almost 2 mega-watts of solar on a system at this facility that tilts the solar panels towards the sun, and follows its path through the day. This allows the panels to convert as much of the suns energy as possible into useful electric energy, producing 25% more power than a fixed solar system. Connected directly to PG&E’s high voltage grid, the system can even power the homes and businesses in the local area when the system is producing more electricity than the prison can use.
